Winter
Fernie is well known for its annual average snowfall of 29 feet (source: Canadian climate normals 1971 – 2000, Environment Canada)- enough snow to cover a 3-storey building! For the winter 2007/2008 season, a massive 40 foot of snow fell in the valley; this happened again in winter 2010/2011.
Fernie’s locals enjoy the traditional winter activities of snow-shoeing, cross-country skiing, ice fishing, curling, hockey and pond skating. The adrenaline sports of downhill skiing, snowboarding and snow-mobiling are attracting visitors to Fernie from all around the world.
